Black Bean Burgers to Make for Your Future Self

These black bean burgers are a pantry recipe, meaning you can make these you own with what you have on hand! I added substation suggestions below. Note: they can be crumbly, you can always start with less almond flour to make sure they stick together and then add more.

I love making a batch of these and then freezing them so I have lunch and dinner ready fast, your future self will thank you. I have also made these with ground turkey, you can sub any ground meat you like. Tag me if you make these burgers @chefcarlacontreras on Instagram #cookingisthenewhealthy

Ingredients:
(

Makes about 5 Burger)

1 can black beans (1 pound of ground meat, like turkey or beef)

1 1/2 cups cooked quinoa (1 cup of cooked rice)

1/2-1 cup almond flour (1/2 cup bread crumbs)

1 tbsp. finely minced or grated fresh ginger root (1 tsp. dried ginger)

2 cloves garlic, finely chopped (use 1 tsp. dry garlic or onion)

1 large egg (you can also make a chia or ground flax egg with 1 tbsp. chia and 3 tbsp. water)

1 large carrot, grated (or 1/4 cup root veggie like sweet potato)

1 tbsp. tamari or soy sauce (or Worcestershire sauce)

1 tsp. sesame seeds (use 1 tsp. nut or seed butter)

2 tbsp. fresh cilantro, chopped leaves and stems(optional)

2 green onions, sliced

Salt and freshly ground black pepper to taste

1-2 tbsp. olive oil for pan to cook the burgers

Instructions:

  1. In a medium bowl, combine the black beans, ginger, garlic, egg, carrot, tamari, sesame oil, cilantro, green onions, salt, and pepper. If substituting ingredients you want to make sure the patty stays together.

  2. Form the mixture into patties 1 1/2 to 2 inches in diameter.

  3. Place the patties on a lightly oiled griddle or pan over medium-high heat for about 4 minutes per side or until cooked through.

Chef Carla Notes:

  1. I cook them all at the same time and freeze them. I place parchment paper in between each one.
  2. To reheat, pop a frozen burger in a 400°F oven for about 20 minutes.
  3. Want to make the fluffiest Quinoa. Here is a video to teach you how.
