Episode 59: The Calming Loving-Kindness Meditation & Affirmation To Use During Stressful Times

“May you be at ease, may you be content, may you be joyful, may you feel safe and secure.” — Kait Hurley

This podcast episode is about my routine of saying part of the Loving-Kindness Meditation as an affirmation while driving my kids to school in the morning to create calm & ease. I have been saying this affirmation with them for the last three years.

I learned it via Kait Hurley on the Kait Hurley App which includes movement and mediation. Kait learned this ancient practice of Loving-Kindness from her teacher Kimberly Carson, they have an 8-week meditation course in Kait’s app.

The morning ritual of saying part of the Loving Kindness Meditation as an affirmation with my kids has gained an extra special meaning throughout the pandemic and times when the world is hurting. And when we are having our own challenges as humans and a family.

The affirmation is always with us to guide us home to each other. When we say this as the sun peaks into the car, we are 100% present and calm, even if it’s just for that moment.

Note: You can say also say Loving-Kindness for your community, your country, and the world.

Journal Prompts:

1. What would it look and feel like to be at ease?

2. What would it look and feel like to be content?

3. What would it look and feel like to feel joyful?

4. What would it look and feel like to feel safe and secure?

Hey, it's chef Carla and welcome to show up fully. This is a podcast where I share what it's like to show up for your real life if you don't know me I'm a food stylist photographer and health coach. You can find me. It's Carla Conreas on Instagram and more information in today's show notes this episode is a solo cast. It's where I'm going. To be sharing the affirmation that I use with my kids to create calm and ease in our mornings. So the history behind this. My kids were 3 and 4 and they were in the same montessori preschool class and my partner Ed was working in New York City and I was doing all of the things like getting them breakfast and getting them dressed and getting them in the car and getting them to school on time and you know all of the things and it felt stressful and it felt chaotic and it felt. You know I could even feel my heart racing as I'm telling you this but I was using the Kate Hurley app at the same time if you don't know Kate she is an incredible human that blends movement and meditation and. While I was using her app I was using the meditations and her lovingkindness meditation which is an ancient practice.

She learned this from her teacher Kim Carson they also have a meditation course inside of the Kate Hurley app so I started using this meditation and I was like okay could I pull part of this out and repeat it to the kids as we drive to school so that's what I started to do and I remember sending Kate videos like on Instagram. Of my daughter when she was 4 years old repeating lovingkindness and it really shifted our mornings it shifted it into a space of calm a space of ease a space of presence and. But didn't matter what was going on before we got in the car. It didn't matter what was going on in the world. It didn't matter what was going on in our family or you know meltdown to all the things for that moment we were at ease we were calm. And so I'm going to repeat this to you. It's also going to be in the show notes and I'm going to invite you to apply this to your life and see how it shifts how you show up all right? May you be at ease may you be content.
